Taoiseach: government doesn’t know how much fuel prices will increase by after ban on Russian oil imports

The EU agreed to phase out around 90% of oil imports by the end of the year in a landmark response to the war in Ukraine.

It’s likely to lead to further rises in fuel costs in Ireland.

Speaking in Brussels, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the future remains uncertain:

“We weren’t that dependent on Russian oil, so from the Irish perspective it doesn’t affect our supplies in particular, but it will affect the overall market and prices will go up. We don’t have specifics in terms of by how much, but clearly there is an energy crisis out there.”
