The Public Expenditure Minister has insisted fare cuts for public transport are only until the end of this year.

The 20% discount was confirmed as part of a package to reduce the cost of living.

Around €300m of new spending was confirmed yesterday with the Government saying the total package when the budget is taken into account is now €1.5bn.

There were nearly 2,200 official complaints against Gardai last year.

According to freedom of information files, it’s an increase of 12% on 2020.

The Garda watchdog, GSOC, got seven allegations of sex offences last year – and 27 about theft or fraud.

The European Consumer Centre is advising people to contact its office if they still haven’t received refunds for flights cancelled during the pandemic.

It says a number of airlines have still not managed to return all payments even though they are obliged to do so under the law.
