The Cork version of the DART will move a step closer today

The Government is to place an order for 90 new battery-electric train carriages, which will be used to expand the DART system into the greater Dublin area and eastern region.

However, they could also be used for a future rapid transit system in Cork.

The possibility of increased tolls on the nations roads is up for discussion again today as the Chief Executive from Transport Infrastructure Ireland is set to be questioned by the Oireachtas Transport Committee.

Earlier this month TII confirmed Motorway toll charges across the country would increase to their maximum permitted price.

It’s expected Cabinet will discuss the unwinding of restrictions on the benefits of bankers this morning.

It’s part of a busy Cabinet agenda which also includes changes to laws around organ donation.
