Threshold answering a call every 20 minutes

A national housing charity is answering one call every twenty minutes from private renters facing eviction.

Threshold’s latest report shows its advisors are handling an average of 472 queries a month from people being told they have to leave their rented properties.

60% of notices issued to renters were because the landlord intended to sell the property.

Threshold’s National Advocacy Manager Ann-Marie O’Reilly says it’s becoming a major problem.

“People are receiving notices of termination, but the rate at which we’re seeing them this year is beyond anything we’ve come across before.

“When it comes to a landlord selling, at least half of those notices are valid, whereas previously the majority would have been invalid, which would mean then tenant wouldn’t actually have to leave.”
