President Higgins called him a ‘legendary sporting icon’

The former Republic of Ireland manager passed away on Friday night at the age of 85, following a battle with dementia and lymphoma.

The sporting icon led Ireland to Euro ’88 and two World Cups in the 90s.

Journalist Declan Lynch wrote the book ‘Days of Heaven, Italia 90 and the Charlton Years’.
