In the UK, the man who killed nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel in Liverpool last year has been jailed for a minimum term of 42 years, and refused to turn up to his sentencing.
34-year-old Thomas Cashman was convicted last week of her murder.
His defence claims he’s “concerned that the matter is turning into a circus” and that prosecutors had been singing “We Are the Champions”.
At Manchester Crown Court, the sentencing judge Mrs Justice Yip said he’d refused to come up from the cells:
“I have directed that he should do so, but he has maintained his refusal. I am therefore left with no choice but to sentence him in his absence. The sentencing remarks will be made available to him in writing”.
