VFI says retention of table service means some pubs will temporarily close

The Vintners’ Federation of Ireland has warned that some publicans will choose to temporarily close their businesses after the Government confirmed the retention of table service only in pubs.

The VFI says some publicans are currently unable to break even in the current environment and won’t be able to work with the restrictions until February.

Publicans says while they are happy with the resumption of normal trading hours the non return of the counter means it will be very restrictive on the amount of business they can do.

The Federation says the decision not to ease restrictions is a direct result of Government failing to deal with the small percentage of people who remain unvaccinated and who have a disproportionate impact on hospitalisation numbers.

Michael Farrell owner of Farrell’s Summerfield Bar, Youghal told RedFM News says he’s happy that the Covid certs have remained in place as it eases customers’ concerns.

“I suppose the thing that we would welcome is that it’s vaccinated people only.

“If that wasn’t in place people would be nervous to go to night clubs or come back to pubs if there was going to be unvaccinated people there.”
