West Cork landmark devastated by fire this weekend
Uncontrolled fire burning will have to stop.
That’s according to a south west TD as one of west cork’s landmarks was devastated by a fire this weekend.
Cork County Fire Services attended the scene at Mount Gabriel on the Mizen Peninsula near Schull and fire fighters worked to contain several blazes.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cork South West TD Michael Collins says if the fire was set alight on purpose, fines must be issued:
“Fire brigades left right and centre in the West Cork, trying to introduce emergency parts of people’s property. People were worried obviously when you see a fire coming to your house, the first thing you’re going to do is loom for help, and neighbours in fairness were helping old people and doing everything they could to make sure that it didn’t get too near property. But it didn’t stretch too far. Services were completely stretched out all day yesterday, and all through the night last night, and I look to pay tribute to those people that put their lives at risk and got it under control. And people that are partaking in that kind of activity will have to stop.”
