Workers at MTU to stage protest

Workers at Munster Technological University will protest at a flag raising ceremony with the Taoiseach

Micheál Martin along with with Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris will attend the event this morning.

However, workers at the university from the TUI union are set to hold a silent protest with placards at the symbolic raising of the MTU flag for the college’s first academic semester.

The Irish Examiner reports the protest relates to a number of issues raised by staff with management at the new university which is a unification of Tralee IT and CIT.

Recruitment, staff complaints procedures, career frameworks for workers, and the safeguarding of regional provision are some of the concerns for workers.
