Works are to begin early next year on the upgrade of Ballymaquirke Cross – which has been branded ‘the most dangerous in the country’.
That’s according to this week’s Corkman.
The R579 Banteer-Kanturk road cross the N72 Mallow to Killarney road at the notorious junction.
The North Cork crossroad has been the site of several serious and fatal road collisions.
The paper is reporting construction on the project, by Cork construction firm Sorensen, will take approximately nine-months to complete, at a cost of 4-million euro.
10-acres of land by the junction have already been bought under Compulsory Purchase Orders.
