The process to expedite the retendering for the long awaited Cork Events Centre is underway
It’s been close to 9 years since the sod was turned on the 6,000 seat venue
It's believed up to €40 million extra in funding is now needed to build the centre which would be used for large conferences and concerts.
Local Government Minister Darragh O’Brien, says there is a clear commitment to deliver the project for Cork
"I understand the frustration, like I know that sod was turned on this years and years ago. I want to see this move forward. So I think the decision this week is a positive one, because the centre itself will be so important for Cork city and and indeed the region. We now have the basis to move forward with it now through a truncated procurement process, whilst we in parallel, continue to deal with the preferred bidder"
