Hundreds of people are expected to gather outside the Dail later for a protest against ongoing restrictions in maternity hospitals.

They want the Health Minister to honour his commitment to end the exclusion of partners from labour and emergency appointments in all units.

Pregnant women, partners and newborn babies are expected to be among those attending the demonstration.

Linda Kelly from Better Maternity Care is one of the organisers.

She gave birth at CUMH and told REDFM news they expect a big turn out at today's protest.

"Hundreds of women, their partners and their families are going to attend from across the country because maternity restrictions are still in place, and the HSE have confirmed they are not going to lift them on the 22nd of October.

"It is no longer tenable for the HSE to have a policy of separating women and their nominated support partner during labour, for severely restricted visiting hours and for antenatal appointments."
