Publicans are concerned ahead of the winter if their premises cannot fully reopen and operate as they did in pre-pandemic times.

Many publicans are hanging on by the skin of their teeth and are relying on savings and Government supports to keep the doors of their pubs open.

Michael Farrell owner of Farrell's Bar in Summerfield Youghal says the industry is holding its breath ahead of tomorrow's announcement by the Government on the further lifting of further restrictions on October 22nd

Speaking to RedFM News Farrell says while they have weather proofed their business as much as possible, as winter sets in customers will want to be indoors.

"We are weather proofed, we have it covered, we have heaters, we have all the usual stuff.

"But at the end of the day fi you get very bad or windy weather, whatever measures you put in place people won't want to come out, because if it's cold they want to be warm when they go out.

"There's still people using the outdoor areas because it's comfortable out there and they seem to be after adjusting to that type of lifestyle.

"But realistically - we would want to see indoor areas opening up to full capacity."
