The Everyman Theatre in Cork has been closed since March of last year and is 94% dependent on box office sales.
Artistic Director at the Everyman Sophie Motley says the limitation of just 50 people allowed in the auditorium means that any show with those small numbers would be loss-making.
Speaking to RedFM News Sophie says it's time they were thrown a lifeline in the form of a roadmap for re-opening:
"There's a lot of jobs at stake here. And alongside it, there is a real need, I think, in the general public. We've had a lot of requests from people who want to connect with live entertainment. For a lot of people, who've had a very difficult time in the last 18 months, their way out of it is to be able to smile and laugh and connect. The Everyman and the arts and culture sectors are providing an opportunity for people to do that and it shouldn't be overlooked."
