Residents of a housing estate in Glanmire say they hope the City Council will speed up flood relief plans in the area to prevent their homes from flooding again.

Storm Babet caused the Glashaboy River to burst its banks yesterday and ankle deep water flooded homes in Copper Valley Vue.

It’s the second time the housing estate has flooded in the past 8 years and the City Council have plans to input flood relief schemes in Glanmire in the next few years.

Speaking to RedFM News, Kathryn Duggan who came back to find her house in Copper Valley Vue completely flooded yesterday, says it can’t happen again:

I hope that this is going to be the biggest wake up call. Unfortunately at our expense, but I hope that this is going to drive things down a bit quicker. I know there is a flood relief scheme in place, and I know I think it's two to three years down the line. So, please, hopefully this will speed things up a bit and this could never happen again because it's heartbreaking for the residents here in Glanmire."
