Residents on the northside of the city say they have to replace washing machines and showers because of dirty water coming into their homes.

Homeowners in Ballyvolane, Dublin Hill, Onslow Gardens and surrounding areas say brown water has been coming out of their taps for 3 years and nothing has been done about it.

RedFM News has contacted Irish Water for a statement.

John Mulcahy who lives in Ballyvolane says he spends almost 30 euro a week on bottled water to prepare baby bottles for his twin babies.

Speaking to RedFM News, John says he shouldn't have to explain to his seven year old son that he can't have tap water:

"Just over Bank Holiday weekend the kids were due to go back to school, we couldn't wash his uniform, he couldn't wash himself we couldn't wash ourselves It's not just us I can give you countless expamples of neighbours having to replace showers, washing machings stuff like that because of water coming out of the taps basically."
