Currently City and County Councils around the country operate the dereliction levy scheme however campaigners say the amounts collected are too low

Frank O’Connor and Jude Sherry, founders of Anois, have been highlighting the issues of dereliction and vacancy in Cork many years .
Frank told RedFM News the amount collected by the Council doesn't reflect the level of dereliction and vacancy in the city
"Every town and city has been affected by this and it doesn't make any economic sense to have a derelict city or a derelict town. At a time where we need housing more than ever, a lot of these properties could be put back into housing, but likewise put into other things for community use such as creches. play spaces, creative spaces, so everyone loses out"
