A Garda cold case review into the killing of Sophie Toscan du Plantier will continue, despite the death of the self-proclaimed chief suspect, Ian Bailey.

The funeral of the English born former journalist will take place in West Cork after the 66 year old collapsed and died in Bantry yesterday.

His solicitor Frank Buttimer says his client had been relentlessly pursued following Sophie's tragic passing.

He says while he has enormous sympathy with the family, as did Ian, for their loss they were relentless in their wrongful pursuit of him.

The Irish Times Southern Correspondent Barry Roche says he'd fallen into ill health:

"His  remains have been brought to the market central General Hospital. He was 66 and would have celebrated his 67th birthday later this week, his health had deteriorated considerably in the last six months or so."
