Cork’s so called 'robot trees' have been branded a colossal waste of money.
Five "urban moss walls", were installed on St Patrick’s Street and Grand Parade by Cork City council in 2021, costing up to €380,000, in a bid to tackle air pollution in the city.
Jude Sherry, co-founder of global design agency Anois and a leading sustainability campaigner, says the five robot trees use up to a year’s worth of household electricity, and were ‘extremely environmentally damaging’.
The Echo report that Cork City Council is currently analysing the data from the moss walls, and will present the results to the council once the analysis is complete.
