It appears the row over speaking time in the Dáil is over for now at least.
The Government has conceded the Regional Independents aren’t getting opposition speaking time.
The Opposition Parties were geared up for a heated Dáil Reform Committee at midday this afternoon following the Ceann Comhairles significant decision over speaking rights.
Verona Murphy concluded the four Regional Independent TDs who helped form the programme for Government couldn’t speak as Opposition TDs.
It was thought the Government may have a response to this at the Dáil Reform Committee this afternoon but it appear, although some TDs are unhappy, they have accepted her decision.
The meeting was wrapped up extremely quickly with an agreement to look at reform in the area.
That appears to be that for now at least and the Dáil can resume tomorrow – hopefully without the unsavoury scenes of a few weeks ago.
