The World Cup winner will now meet with a specialist to discuss surgery and is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The province have also confirmed that Dave Kilcoyne and Jean Kleyn have been ruled out for the immediate future.
Kilcoyne has an ankle injury while Kleyn has a neck injury, and both players require rehabilitation periods for their injuries.
