The Chief Executive of the City Council says there can't be an official event to switch on the Christmas lights in the city because it's unsafe.
The lights will be turned on tonight but there will be no event to mark the occasion.
There hasn't been an official switch on of the lights since 2019 when concerns were raised about crowd safety.
Speaking to RedFM News, Chief Executive of the City Council, Ann Doherty says the council have been advised not to host the event
"Health and safety is really important because it's about protecting lives. In Dublin in the same year they to discontinue their event because there was a squash. So the advice that we have got from the professionals who run events, is that the event can't be hosted in that environment, because it's unsafe"
