The sale of vapes to under 18's has become illegal today.
Anyone in breech of the new law faces either six months in prison or a fine of up to 4 thousand euro.
Next year vapes will be banned from vending machines and can't be advertised on public transport or near schools.
But Mark Murphy from the Irish Heart Foundation says even more can be done:
"We would welcome all regulations on e-cigarettes, like on packaging, on flavours, on disposable vapes, which is coming through - they should be banned. But also, there should be a an introduction of an excise tax on e-cigarettes. Just enough to deter young people who are the most price sensitive, would allowing long-term adult smokers who are using vapes to still use them".
