Actor Willie Garson has passed away at the age of 57.
Garson was best known for his role in Sex in the City as Stanford Blatch, the best friend of lead character Carrie Bradshaw.
Willie's son Nathen confirmed the sad news in an Instagram post saying, “I love you so much papa. Rest In Peace and I’m so glad you got to share all your adventures with me and were able to accomplish so much.
“I’m so proud of you. I will always love you, but I think it’s time for you to go on an adventure of your own. You’ll always be with me.
“Love you more than you will ever know and I’m glad you can be at peace now. You always were the toughest and funniest and smartest person I’ve known. I’m glad you shared you’re love with me. I’ll never forget it or lose it ❤️?”
According the PEOPLE Garson passed away on Tuesday afternoon after a short illness. Willie had been battling pancreatic cancer and his family was by his side when he died.
Tributes for the actor have been paid by co-stars including Kim Cattrall who posted a photo of her on set with Willie and said, “Such sad news and a terribly sad loss to the SATC family. Our condolences and RIP dear Willie xo”

Cynthia Nixon who plays Miranda in the hit show also tweeted her sadness at the news and her condolences to his adopted son Nathen. She said, “So deeply, deeply sad we have lost @WillieGarson. We all loved him and adored working with him. He was endlessly funny on-screen and and in real life. He was a source of light, friendship and show business lore. He was a consummate professional— always.
“My heart goes out to his son, Nathen Garson. Nathen, I hope you know how much he loved you and how proud he was to be your dad.”
Willie's final tweet was posted on September 5th and read, “BE KIND TO EACH OTHER……ALWAYS. LOVE TO ALL. APRROACH KINDNESS.”
