William on Cork Folk Festival highlights
The Cork Folk Festival is underway through to Sunday October 2nd with over 50 events taking place throughout the Festival. Some of the many artists taking part include Mary Black, Matt Molloy and Sean Keane of the Chieftains, Thomas McCarthy, and Jimmy Crowley.  As well that there will be a performance by two great bands in Fitzgerald’s Park. Peter chats about the return of the Street Art Project to the Streets of the City
Peter is back with Ardú the contemporary street art project, the third of its kind.  It features 3 new works of art for the public to enjoy throughout the Streets and Alleyways of Cork City.   The inaugural project came about as a result of the lockdown in 2020,with the aim of creating murals to brighten up the City.    Murals that are being showcased this year include works by Bristol artist Vents137 on South Terrace and also a mural is being painted by Jolene Kitsune who is from Belgium that’s being painted on O’Sullivan’s Quay. Further to that one’s being painted on Pope’s Quay by French artist based in Dublin Claire Prouvost.  It all came together with the help of Creative Ireland and Cork City Council and a large team of volunteers.    There’s an audio tour available at:  http://arducork.ie/audio-tour/ Or check out: https://www.instagram.com/ardustreetart/

Edel Curtin on Coughlan’s Live 10th Anniversary
Edel talks about the beautiful and intimate venue reaching such a milestone, of 10 years today. Because of the fact that it’s such a small venue the Anniversary event sold in quick fashion. Musicians playing at the event were Paddy Dennnehy, Clodagh Quirke, John Blek, Jemma Hayes, Love Buzz, Paul Newnan of Belx1, Lorraine Nash, Scullion, Jack O’Rourke, Naked Animals, Silent Disco, The Villagers, Niall McCabe and Interference. Some of the Artists were newcomers to Coughlan’s and others made a return. Esther will be hosting an event with John Creedon as part of the Words By Water Festival
Esther will be in conversation with broadcasting legend John Creedon on October 1st at 8 pm – 9.30 pm as part of “Words By Water” Festival. John will discuss his new book “An Irish Folklore Treasury”. He will also speak about his previously released book “That Place We Call Home”. It will be taking place in the Trident Hotel in Kinsale. Fishamble: The New Play Company presents four spectacular Pat Kinevane plays back to back at The Everyman
Fishamble is very proud to have commissioned, developed, and produced plays written and performed by Pat, which continue to tour extensively. They are Forgotten (since 2006), Silent (since 2011) Underneath (since 2014), and Before (since 2018), all directed by Jim Culleton. The Everyman is honoured to give audiences an opportunity to see all four renowned shows back to back. The plays have been performed in over 60 venues throughout Ireland.  They have won Olivier, Fringe First, Helen Hayes, Herald Angel, Herald Archangel, Argus Angel, LA Stage Raw, and Adelaide Fringe Best Theatre awards. Noelle talks about the events coming up during the weekend
On the back of his chat with Cormac, Dave chats to Noelle about the weekend ahead for Culture Night where events will be taking place between the Coal Quay and the Firkin Crane as part of the Pitch’d Circus and Arts Festival. On the Saturday there was be a staging of “Soup” in the Firkin Crane. Soup is a Live art physical theatre show which explores grief. On the Sunday Tony award winning Actor and professional clown Bill Irwin will be performing on Douglas Street outside the Firkin Crane, Bill would have a similar style of cabaret to that of Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy.   For more info visit: Pitch’d Festival (circusfactorycork.com)

Eanna on season two of Netflix series ‘Fate: The Winx Saga’
Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 is now available to view on Netflix. It sees six student fairies attend the ethereal boarding school of Alfea and learn the ways of magic and mystery, and get to experience all sorts of feats of wonder and wizardry. Series two sees the start of a new term at Alfea, with new fairy faces, new romances and new threats. The show was filmed in Wicklow in November 2021. You may recognise Éanna from RTE’s Smother.   Stream Fate: The Winx Saga now on Netflix

Aileen on how Dogs open a world of possibility for a child with needs
Autism Dogs Ireland is a Cork based charity and Aileen on top of having children has taken on the task of training two dogs. It’s a very important job as they can make a significant difference to the users. This means matching the right dog to the right owner. Sometimes training the dogs can take up to 2 years. Aileen is appealing to the public for funds in order to enable them to continue this vital training, which has now become more challenging in recent times. Ray talks of the 18th Clonakilty International Guitar Festival currently underway
Ray joins Dave to discuss the 18th Clonakilty International Guitar Festival, which is currently underway. It’s a return to normality after having two years of holding it with restrictions in place. Musicians at the festival include the likes of Andy Irvine, Anna Tivel, Jeffery Martin, John Spillane, Post Punk Podge & The Techno-Hippies, Enola Gay, Kris Drever, Marisa Anderson and the Farmers Markets Mystery Go Green Gig, where they aim to encourage a greener and more sustainable form of living. Anne talks to Dave ahead of her and her teams trip to Italy next Monday
Anne talks about the Surf Lifesaving World Championships which is taking place in Italy. She is flying out with a group from Clonakilty over to Riccione on the east coast of Italy. They will be hoping to bring home a Gold medal again. Also involved is Niamh Morrison of Hen Jewellery who Dave spoke to previously during Cork Craft Month. The various age groups taking part are… Juniors: 15-18 years Seniors: 18-30 years 30- 35 years 35-40 years and so forth It was something that Anne didn’t get involved with until she was 50,after coming across Thomas Neville who is a Boatman in Inchydoney , she also came across the rest of group while out swimming. John and Gerry discuss Battle for Cork exhibition at St Peter’s North Main Street
John from UCC and military historian Gerry White are both authors of The Battle for Cork The Burning of Cork respectively and both were involved in assisting the presenting of a new exhibition – open now – at St Peter’s North Main Street on the ‘battle for Cork’ of 1922 as seen through the lens of WD Hogan. WD being a famous photographer at the time. It tells of an episode of Ireland’s civil war that saw the free state army drive the anti-treaty IRA out of Cork following an amphibious landing at Passage West and a fierce series of gun battles through Rochestown and Garyduff woods. Darren Kiely talks about his new single “How Could You Love Me”
Hailing from Millstreet in Co. Cork, Ireland – Darren began playing regularly in some of the finest hotels and venues up and down the country in 2019! Inheriting a love of traditional Irish music and classical rock from his parents (the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan) and combining it with a love of current alternative bands and singer-songwriters (most notably The Lumineers and Dermot Kennedy) Darren quickly grew his fanbase on social media during the pandemic. Darren’s deep, raspy and emotive voice allows his lyrics to remain central to the song, while creating a folk/pop style. Fast forward to 2022 and Darren has moved to New York City to pursue his music career closer to his producer. He is about to release his debut single in late August, with more to come before the turn of the year. Eoin on the hell of RTE’s “Ultimate Hell Week – The Professionals”
Eoin was part of the All-Ireland winning Football team with Cork in 2010, but that means nothing on Ultimate Hell Week. He wasn’t able to give away much apart from it’s explosive start which is kicked off last and the fact that calling it “brutal” is an understatement. With each participant being tested mentally and physically with no sleep. The aim being to be one of very few to pass selection into the Army Ranger Wing. Eoin is one of many Cork representatives on the show, with Billy Holland and Setanta Ó hAilpín also taking part. Cormac on Cork’s 5th Pitch’d Circus and Arts Festival
Fresh from Electric Picnic Cormac talks about this years Pitch’d Circus and Arts Festival 2022. The festival runs from Friday 9th- Sunday 25th of September, with Cork’s Red FM as proud media partners. The event is a way of bringing high quality contemporary international Circus acts such as Dutch/Irish ensemble the Tea Time Company who will be getting the festival up and running this Friday and Saturday at Dance Cork Firkin Crane. The following weekend Circus factory will be turning their stomping ground (across from the Marina Market) into a venue with a late night cabaret and street shows during the day. The final weekend of the festival will be culture night and collaborating and combining with Douglas Street, Autumn Festival. Eddie on “FIFA 100” celebrating 100 releases from this Cork label
Eddie spoke about his label FIFA (Forever In Financial Arrears),reaching the milestone of 100 releases. However Eddie couldn’t do this without the assistance of Ashley Keating drummer of the Franks and Walters. Eddie himself was the manager of Emperor of Ice Cream The main focus of FIFA is to get bands air time on radio stations, gigs and generally introducing them to a wider audience while still giving them creative rights to their music. Eddie chats about the benefits of realising music digitally.   The compilation album features 13 tracks with a track from each of the artists signed to FIFA. Nicole who featured in “Too Hot To Handle” spoke to Dave about the period between when the show had finished recording and when it went out live, she goes on to speak about how she handled all the attention and concluded by talking about what life living in the bright lights of London was like. Fergus talks of the Bike 4 Life Cork Spin Off Saturday at Marina Market
This Saturday will see the Cycle Against Suicide 42 K Bike 4 Life Cork Spin Off charity event. The aim of the event is to promote positive Mental Health, Stamp Out Stigma and Demystify Mental Wellbeing. It’s in advance of World Prevention Against Suicide day on September 10th. Another aim is to fight the stigma around masculinity, with 3 out of 4 suicides in Ireland being male, their mantra is “Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength”.  After the cycle returns to Marina Market there will be Food, Music and Mental Health talks and free on site counselling from 2-6 pm. Phil and the Red Patrollers will also be there as will Peter Dennehy who has always played a major role in Cycle Against Suicide events in the past. Claire talks up the 60th celebration of The Montforts at Cork Opera House Thurs 1st
Rathcormac actress Claire chats to Dave from the Sondheim Theatre in Soho where she features in Les Misérables, she made her West End London debut just before Covid struck and has spent the last year and a-half in the cast of the show. Before she hit the West End Claire was a part of the Montfort College of Performing Arts from an early age, and she will be a part of their 60th birthday celebrations in Cork Opera House this Thursday.
