West Cork Fit-Up Festival is happening from 11th July- 6th August
The innovative festival was established in 2009,with the aim of bringing traditional theatre to rural villages and islands in West Cork, in a festival tent. It’s something that was passed down to Geoff from his grandfather. This year sees the 30th Anniversary of decimalisation of Homosexuality
The Cork LBGT + Pride Festival, is happening from July 30th – August 5th. It is also celebrating 30 years since the decimalization of Homosexuality in Ireland. Clive talks about how Ireland has changed for the better since then, he goes on to talk up the free events including “Party At The Port” which is taking place after the Parade on Sunday August 6th. Hear the latest Creative Lives episode ahead of attending Doneraile Art Festival
As part of the Creative Lives series Mary spoke about Doneraile Art Festival, which is one of the main events organised by Art For The Heart. It’s a 4 day festival with arts and crafts workshops, all the materials will be provided. Participants were given the opportunity to make the súgán Stool, have a go at weaving and creating pictures. Art For The Heart have other events including a paint and a pint evening which happens on the last Saturday of every month. Breda Forrest spoke with Mary about Art For The Heart. The Carraig Na Bhfear Drama society are the latest to feature in the Creative Lives series
Michael spoke to Breda Forrest as part of the Creative Lives series, where they discussed the Carraig Na Bhfear drama society. At the time the feature was being recording the society were in the process to staging a 3 man play called Love Lost. It went out for 6 nights. The drama group is a great way for the local community to get involved, be creative and getting active with the welcoming group at Carraig Na Bhfear Drama Society. Either on stage or behind the scenes. Different styles of plays are featured included drama, thriller, and comedy. They will be holding auditions for a 1 man play in Autumn soon. Criag talks to us about Athletics Week
Athletics week is starting on June 30th and running through to July 8th. As part Athletics week there will be several athletic events, happening in clubs around the Country. Various age groups will be able to participate. Including events for 6-12 year olds from 10-2 pm daily, as well as events for adults including strength and conditioning Webinars, Palates and Yoga. Aideen Wylde’s play is part of the Cork Midsummer Festival
Broken Crow Productions in association with the Everyman and Clonmel Junction were showing Aideen Wilde’s play “Found “ and it’s directed by Julie. It was show throughout the weekend in the Graffiti Theatre in Blackpool. It tells the story of the Irish Diaspora in Newfoundland, and how despite having ancestors who immigrated 100s of years ago still have an accent similar to that of the south east of Ireland. It’s Inspired by a trip that Julie herself took to Newfoundland, as well as having seen footage that her father (a cameraman) shot of Newfoundland.

Fota is Celebrating its 40th Anniversary Weekend from Friday 23rd June
Willie chats with Dave about the upcoming Carnival celebrations, where Red FM will be on board. More Music and Izzy will be broadcasting live this Friday and Saturday. Willie is responsible for VIP Family Tours of the park, where members of the public can see behind the scenes and have a look into the day to day running of the park. He goes on to chat about his 35 years with the park, as well as the various sections of the park, and the care and attention that goes into looking after the Animals. Caleb is Ambassador for the IMNDA Fundraising Day of Silence
Caleb features in an advert highlighting how Motor Neurone Disease started with tremors. He goes onto explain how the tremors started nearly two years ago, and he was officially diagnosed in January of 2022. Some of the side effects Caleb is suffering with because of Motor Neurone Disease include a problem with his speech, a struggle to move his muscles and Eat. Members of the public are being encouraged to volunteer to a day of silence to see what Motor Neurone sufferers must cope with daily. The tagline for the campaign is “Lose Your Voice So Others Can Be Heard”. It’s a campaign of awareness as well as a fundraising campaign. Chris talks up the 8 to 8 run in aid of Marymount Hospice
Chris is training in the Defence Forces in Collins Barracks, and Chris and his colleagues took it upon themselves to help raise funds for Marymount Hospice. This involves doing a 12 hour run to take the form a relay, from 8am to 8pm. It will be passing through areas such as… The City Centre, Turner’s Cross, Togher, Wilton, Ballincollig, The Lee Road, The Marina, and Patrick’s Hill. Cian McSweeney talks about the band’s “Rise Above” Tour
Cork Band True Tides are back for their “Rise Above” tour. Cian spoke to us on the back of playing support to The Coronas at Sea Sessions. He also got the opportunity to play saxophone with the Coronas at a few of their gigs. If that wasn’t a busy enough schedule, the band had the opportunity to open for Olly Murs. A RedFM Creative Lives feature on dancing at the crossroads at Laharn
Mary and Laharn Community Action group are talking about how they are maintaining the old tradition of dancing at the crossroads at their nearby crossroads at Laharn ,situated at the foot of the Baelic Mountains in North Cork . Dancing at the crossroads would have been something that was a lot more frequent before the introduction of the dancehalls and a better transport infrastructure . In Laharn it saw a revival in the 1990’s. It takes place every Sunday from 8 to 10pm. Siobhán McSweeney of Derry Girls stars in Samuel Beckett’s “Happy Days”
The UCC science graduate went onto start as Sister Michael in Derry Girls and is now returning to the stage to act in Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days as Winne, this is on the back of having been in Dancing At Lughnasa . Gavin’s play “The Settling” is coming to the Granary
From next Sunday 18th -Thursday 22nd in the Granary, Gavin, and Broken Crow’s production of “The Settling” will be staged. It’s part of the Cork Midsummer Festival and is Gavin’s first fully scripted play. Gavin is a Dub, but his partner George Hanover who is in the play is from Cork. It’s one of 3 plays that Gavin was able to produce with thanks to a grant from the Arts Council of Ireland. Johnny Walsh, Kinsale fisherman – a star of Faraway Fields – The Hardest Harvest
Johnny is a Kinsale fisherman who went to The Gambia to sample what life on the West Coast of Africa is like, as well as getting the opportunity to fish and spend time with the locals and living with them, in places such as Tanji. Johnny also sees how reliant they are on fishing to make a living, by catching “Yaboi” in wooden boats, and how trawlers from other countries are putting that in jeopardy. Ena spoke ahead of The ICA holding a fashion show in Midleton last night
Ena spoke to Dave ahead of a fashion show in Midleton Park in aid of St Vincent de Paul Midleton and Carrigtwohill. She pervious spoke to Breda Forrest as part the Creative Lives podcast, which highlights creative groups across the City and County that members of the public can join, and get in touch with their creative side. The ICA (Irish Countrywomen’s Association) is a great organisation that allows women of all ages and backgrounds to socialise with one another, with 6000 members across the country, and 440 guilds . Music Generation Cork Celebrate Cruinnú na nÓg
Music Generation provide education to youth groups, schools, and various organisations around Cork City with kids from 5-18 years old. They are celebrating being 10 years old by releasing a new single – Music Gives Me A Reason, which they performed at the Rock The Block at Elizabeth Fort. One of the groups that Music Generation supports is Gary and the Cabin Studios. As part of Cruinnú na nÓg this year two of its members Jamie and Ciara will be taking on ambassadorial roles. U2 play a big part in the funding for Music Generation, with being quoted as saying “they just want to make sure that everyone regardless of their background get access to music tuition”. It’s not only good from a music point of view but it gives its members to opportunity to socialise, gives them an outlet and helps with their mental health. Cork Carnival Of Science takes place this Weekend
The free pop up science festival is taking place this weekend is Fitzgerald’s Park, from 11-6 pm on both the Saturday and Sunday. It’s open to all the family, with over 45 different science activities as well as Live Performers, Workshops, Demonstrations, a Sports Zone, Live Music and Food Venders. The aim is to make science fun by taking it out of the classroom, where you will have the opportunity to learn how to extract DNA, Drive Mini Robots and walking through a pop up digestive system. All exhibits on display will be coming from Ireland and further afield. The event is organised by Cork City Council, and our Red Patrollers will be on site. Don’t miss all the supercars at Mahon Point SC Sunday from 3pm
Pat who sadly lost his 10-year-old son to cancer is Munster Rep for Little blue heroes, who are a non for profit organisation made up of existing and retired members of An Garda Síochána All with aim of wanting to help families with seriously I’ll children, in terms of providing financial aid and well earned trips away to the 719 families that are currently registered with Little Blue Heroes.   From Friday there will be several rally cars travelling around the country before ending up in Mahon Point Shopping Centre on Sunday, where Colm O’Sullivan will be live from 2-6pm .
