Significant staffing challenges in the CoAction facility in Castletownbere has led to the planned relocation of its residents.

That's according to the CEO of Co Action West Cork who says moving residents with intellectual disabilities out of the Beara peninsula to other residential centres in West Cork is their only option.

CoAction have made numerous attempts to find appropriate staff to maintain services in the area but have had no success in the recruitment process.

Speaking to RedFM News, CEO of CoAction West Cork, Gobnait Ní Chrualaoí, says recruitment is active to get the residents back to their home in Castletownbere:

"It's not a closure because people are actually still going to be getting the service, albeit in a different location, and recruitment is active and ongoing, and we've actually identified somebody now who's spending the next three months, solely focusing on recruitment, and Jenny is going to be working very closely with us to try and find find staff that are appropriate qualified so that's, I suppose that's probably our highest priority right now is to try and find suitably qualified staff so that we can bring the people back to their homes."
