Sinn Fein wants the Health Minister to listen to what the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has been calling for.
Nurses passed an emergency motion yesterday, voting for industrial action, if safe staffing isn't improved.
The INMO's Annual Delegate Conference continues today in Killarney in County Kerry.
The party's health spokesperson, David Cullinane is backing the nurses.
"It's simply not fair that in too many wards, in emergency wards, in community settings, right across the HSE and right across our acute hospitals that we don't have safe staffing levels.
"I think in the first instance it is important that the HSE and the Government support those on the frontline, and make sure that, at the very least, we have safe staffing levels in our hospitals."
