The Brazilian Football Confederation says it 'deeply regrets' the events that led to the abandonment of last night's World Cup qualifier against Argentina.
Health officials took to the pitch shortly after kick off, due to an alleged breach of Covid-19 protocols.
Under Brazilian rules, visitors who have been in the UK 14 days before entering the country are obliged to quarantine on arrival.
Three Premier League players were involved in the game - Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez, as well as Tottenham duo Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero.
Another Aston Villa player, Emiliano Buendia, was part of the extended Argentina squad.
A statement from the Brazilian Football Confederation reads:
"The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) deeply regrets the events that occurred and that eventually caused the suspension of the match between Brazil and Argentina, valid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Qatar.
The CBF advocates the implementation of the strictest health protocols and complies with them in their entirety. However, he points out that he was absolutely surprised by the moment when the action of the National Health Surveillance Agency occurred, with the match having already begun, since Anvisa could have exercised its activity in a much more appropriate way in the various moments and days prior to the game.
The CBF also points out that at no time, through the interim President, Ednaldo Rodrigues, or its leaders, interfered at any point related to the health protocol established by the Brazilian authorities for the entry of people into the country. The role of the CBF was always in an attempt to promote understanding between the entities involved so that the health protocols could be complied with to the satisfaction and the game was carried out.
The CBF reiterates its disappointment with the events and awaits the decision of CONMEBOL and FIFA in relation to the match."
