The former Ireland defender has been in charge at the City ground since October of last year.
However forest have taken one point from the first seven games of the new season and are without a win in 13 games.
They're currently three points adrift of safety at the bottom of the championship table - it's forest's worst start to a season in 108 years.
Forest lost 2-0 to Middlesboro last night.
A statement from the club this morning confirmed that Hughton had been relieved of his duties.
"Nottingham Forest can confirm that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as first team manager.
"The club would like to wish Chris all the best in his future career."
