Stephen KennyRepublic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman has called for Stephen Kenny's contract to be extended.

The Boys in Green played out a scoreless draw with Portugal in their scoreless draw at the Aviva Stadium last night, in front of a sold out crowd of nearly 52,000.

The visitors had Pepe sent off for a second booking late on, but despite turning the screw Ireland couldn't find a winner.

Former Dundalk and Derry City manager Kenny's contract runs out in July, with the FAI set to make a decision on his future by the end of the year.

Kenny has overseen a good run of recent form, going unbeaten in their last 5 games since the defeat to last night's opponents in Faro back in September.

And Everton defender Coleman is calling for Kenny to stay, saying that the players are loving their football under the Dubliner.

"Of course I want him to stay, and I think you can tell by the support we had tonight that they're enjoying the brand of football

"We knew it wasn't going to happen over night, but I do fully believe that the players are starting to get brave with what's asked of them as well, you can be as good a coach as you want but the players have to really be brave and do what's asked.

"I really feel like that's happening now. Players are wanting the ball, they're enjoying the ball, and we're performing a lot better."

Ireland wrap up their World Cup qualification campaign away to Luxembourg on Sunday evening at 7.45."
