Colin Healy has resigned as Cork City boss.
The club released a statement late last night to say that the former Irish international had stepped down from his role with immediate effect following discussions with the club.
Healy led City to the first division title last season, however the Rebel Army have struggled in the Premier Division, winning just two games from 13 to sit second from bottom, three points ahead of bottom side UCD.
City were beaten 5-0 by league leaders Bohemians on Friday night.
The news came on the same day that former St Pat’s manager Liam Buckley was appointed the club’s sporting director, however it’s not believed that had any bearing on Healy’s decision to step down.
Buckley will be in the dugout for tomorrow night’s game against St Pat’s, along with Liam Kearney and the rest of Healy’s backroom team, however it’s not believed that Buckley is in the running to become the club’s next permanent manager.
Healy made over 170 appearances for City as a player, and was appointed interim first team coach in 2020 following the departure of Neale Fenn, taking the job on a full time basis the following year.
In their statement City thanked Healy for his contribution as both a player and a manager and wished him every success in the future.
