Cork City FC owner Dermot Usher says he didn’t want Colin Healy to resign as manager.
The club confirmed last night that the former Ireland international was to leave as boss, after two and a half years in charge.
City are on a run of four straight defeats, and are second from bottom in the table, 3 points clear of basement side UCD, and host St Patrick’s Athletic tomorrow.
Speaking to RedFM sport, Usher says he wanted Healy to stay in his position as manager.
"It was a hard one for the club, because we didn't want Colin to go. We'd probably known that perhaps towards the end of last week that something was afoot, and I think that with the two results that happened on Friday and Monday, and then some of the, I'm going to call it 'banter' after the game on Monday, I think was probably the final straw for Colin.
"With the way the results have gone, it's been extremely difficult for everybody, but there was full support there from everybody in the club."
Usher says there was no pressure from him on Colin because of recent results.
"No, absolutely not. There was full support. I'd sent him a text after the match on Friday to say 'I still believe in you, let's keep this show on the road.'
"With Liam Buckley coming in, Colin was fully aware of that and understood what we were trying to do. That role that is being created was there to support and help with player recruitment. We're coming up to a transfer window where would hope to add to the squad that we currently have.
"There's been lots of positive things happening on and off the pitch, unfortunately Colin decided that the time for him wasn't right.
"We're sorry to see him go."
