The future of Republic of Ireland manager Vera Pauw should be decided tonight.

The FAI’s board will deliberate over an in-depth report on Ireland’s entire World Cup campaign, compiled by director of football Marc Canham.

It’s believed Pauw has lost the support of the Ireland players.

The Dutch woman’s previous contract expired at the end of the World Cup, and tonight’s board meeting with decide if there’s to be an extension.

The 60 year old led the Girls in Green to their first World Cup, suffering narrow defeats to the tournament co-hosts Australia and Canada, and drawing 0-0 with Nigeria.

It was during that draw with Nigeria when behind the scenes tensions came to the fore, with captain Katie McCabe urging the manager to make changes late on, with Pauw refusing, saying afterwards "If Katie McCabe says that she wants a change that doesn’t mean...She’s not the coach.

"Everybody was doing so well. I said ‘What do you want Katie, take our best player off?’ No. We made the changes when they were necessary. Sinead Farrelly was arguably the best player on the pitch at that moment. I was not prepared to take the best player off."

McCabe responded on Twitter with a zipped face emoji.

The Republic of Ireland's next game is on the 23rd of September as the Girls in Green play their very first game at the Aviva Stadium as they face Northern Ireland in the Nations League.
