Lionel Messi has told Barcelona that he wants to leave the club.
The Argentine playmaker has been with the Catalan giants for almost twenty years.
But following a meeting with new head coach Ronald Koeman, Messi’s stated his intention to leave.
He’s cited a clause in his contract which allows him to leave for free at the end of a season.
But Barca have countered, saying that clause expired in June.
Messi's request to leave has increased the pressure on those calling the shots at Barcelona.
Club president Josep Bartomeu denied last night that he had tendered his resignation.
There have been calls for him to step down after Messi informed the club that he wanted his contract terminated.
Messi though may have to take legal action in order to force his exit.
It's report that Barcelona believe that the exit clause in his contract expired on June 10th.
