Republic of Ireland manager Eileen Gleeson insists they’ll be treating tonight’s friendly with Wales as a competitive game.

The game is likely Ireland’s last outing before the start of their Euro qualifying campaign.

Kick-off at Tallaght Stadium is at 7.30.

Gleeson says Wales will provide a very stern test this evening.

"They've had some toe to to games where perhaps they didn't come out at the right end of the result - they've got a nil all draw against Germany.

"It's another tough test for us, another good benchmark as to how we are and how we perform and how we set up.

"It's a good preparation match for us I think, and they will have a lot of experience."

The Girls in Green are unbeaten under new boss Eileen Gleeson and will play in League A of the Nations League this year.

Captain Katie McCabe has given Gleeson a ringing endorsement.

"She absolutely deserves it, and obviously the staff as well. It's a fantastic appointment in my opinion, and the FAI have got it spot on in terms of who they think should take us forward in order for us to qualify for the Euros.

"She's got my full support - she knows that. As do the rest of the coaching staff.

"That's why I'm so excited, we have the ingredients to do something very special as a team.

"It's about us now as players just focussing on performances, and making sure we fulfil our potential with that."
