Tributes have been pouring in for Cork City player David Saunders.
The Kerryman passed away yesterday after his third battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Ann-Marie, and his children Jack and Aoibhín.
The 40 year old represented Ireland on 38 occasions, and was one of the first players to sign with City's amputee team when it launched in 2017.
City lead the tributes on social media last night, saying "Everyone at Cork City FC is devastated to learn of the passing of amputee player, David Saunders. Our thoughts are with David's family and friends at this difficult time. Rest in peace, David. One of our own."
Irish Amputee Football said: "Amputee Football is devastated to hear that one of our warriors has sadly passed away. David Saunders was a truly inspirational player & gentleman to anyone who was graced to meet him. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult period."
The League Of Ireland's official Twitter account said: "Everyone at the League of Ireland would like to send its condolences and deepest sympathies to family and friends of Cork City amputee player David Saunders. Our thoughts are with everyone at Cork City FC after his passing. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
Tributes have also been paid by FAI Chief Executive Jonathan Hill, Bohemians, Derry City and St Patrick's Athletic.
On the GoFundMe page David launched before his passing, his sister Sinead Saunders Carroll said:
"With great sadness, I have to share the news that David passed away yesterday, April 24th. David fought a valiant battle but now he's finally at peace. Thanks again for your incredible donations and words of support. Your kindness has been amazing and provided David and his family with so much comfort in his final weeks.
