The crisis facing primary care psychology services has slipped under the radar.

That's according to Social Democrats Leader Holly Cairns who has called for the recruitment embargo to be lifted as more than 4,000 children in Cork are on waiting lists for psychology services.

Cork Kerry Community Healthcare says more than half of posts in the service are vacant as the recruitment of psychologists is currently very difficult.

Speaking to RedFM News Cork TD Holly Cairns says urgent action is needed to tackle the waiting lists:

"In their response to my parliamentary question the HSE pointed the finger directly at the Government's recruitment embargo and with half the funded posts in the service vacant and the HSE unable to recruit psychologists that are needed. The Government needs to stop pretending this embargo is not having an impact on these vital services. And finally, lift the embargo."
