Tenants of a social housing complex on the north side of the city say they’re spending a fortune on heating because of a poor heating system installed by the City Council.

Some residents in Glenmoy Lawn and Ard Bhaile in Mayfield are spending around 90 euro per week to heat their homes.

The tenants are calling on the City Council to replace the air-to-air heat pumps that were installed around 10 years ago with a better system.

Speaking to RedFM News, Norma Hennessy who lives in Árd Bhaile says she can’t afford to turn on the heater:

"If I put the thing on the wall on, I was shocked the first time I used it, I turned it on, the room heated, I turned it off it was like turning off a hairdryer or a light switch, it's gone. €80-90 a week on pre-pay, I can't afford it, I'm a pensioner, I mean people working couldn't afford that."
