Sexual Violence centre Cork  some people are afraid to report being raped or sexually assaulted by housemates during lockdown for fear of not being believed.

Mary Crilly says some perpetrators are very calculating and are able to effectively convince others that they did nothing wrong.

The charity is also highlighting how the lack of accommodation in the city is forcing some victims to continue to live in the same place as their abuser.

Speaking to RedFM News Mary Crilly of the Sexual Violence Centre Cork outlines why some people are not reporting the crimes:

"Perpetrators are manipulative and clever, and the very exact. They groom everybody around them. So if it happens in a student or professional accommodation or wherever they were, the girl very often isn't believed because the guy comes across as so nice, so easy going, so relaxed. And he is  saying, "I didn't do this, God why would I even do this?" and because he's being like that, because he manipulates people- bar people he wants to abuse-  he has groomed the whole lot so they believe him straight on."

The number for the Sexual Violence Centre Cork is 1800 496 496
