Novak Djokovic has won his court case to appeal the Australian Government’s cancellation of his visa, meaning he is now free to play in the Australian Open.
The World Number 1 spend the the last four nights in hotel quarantine after he was denied entry to the country on Wednesday in Melbourne.
However the 34 year old’s lawyers argued that Australia’s border officials failed to give valid notice of the government’s intention to cancel his visa.
Judge Anthony Kelly ruled this morning that the cancellation order was quashed immediately, which means Djokovic’s visa is now valid and he can now enter Australia.
The Serbian player, who has yet to reveal his vaccination status, had claimed that he was infected with Covid in December, therefore making him exempt from requiring a vaccination to enter Australia.
The Australian open begins on January 17th, and should Djokovic win he will become the most successful men’s player in history.
However it's understood the country's immigration minister could still revoke his visa again.
