Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has announced his retirement in order to focus on his political career.

The only 8 division champion in boxing history, the 42 year old is hanging up his gloves in order to run for president of the Philippines in May.

Pacquiao retires with a record of 62-8-2, and goes out on the back of a defeat to Yordenis Ugas. Pacquiao was due to face Errol Spence Jr, but a dethatched retina meant he was replaced with Ugas on 11 days' notice.

Pacquiao is perhaps best known for his incredible win over Oscar de la Hoya in 2008, and the record breaking bout with Floyd Mayweather in 2015 which had nearly 4.6m pay per view buys, shattering the previous record of 2.4m set by Mayweather v de la Hoya.

Pacquiao also holds wins over the likes of Ricky Hatton, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Marquez, Miguel Cotto, and Antonio Margarito.

He was also named Boxer of the Year twice by the American Boxing Writers Association.

Pacquiao will go up against incumbent Rodrigo Duterte in May's presidential election.
