St Killian's Special School has welcomed the announcement of 40 thousand euro in funding for therapists from the HSE.
It's after a year long campaign by parents and the school in Mayfield to restore therapists who will work with teachers and SNA's to facilitate children with learning differences.
Speaking to RedFM News, Eibhlín Gleeson from St Killian's Parents Unite says although the school and parents are grateful that the funding has been allocated, it is only a short term measure:
"We're really delighted that it has come to this moment where we've eventually managed to secure funding to do this now, just to keep in mind as well, that this is a short term measure, whilst we're extremely grateful for it, there is kind of a longer term plan here that we have to kind of bring in a consistent, sustainable model for the future that sees, I suppose, the permanency of these therapists and special skills in St. Killian's."
