A status orange thunderstorm and rain warning is in place nationally until 6pm.
Met Eireann say there will be significant rainfall over the next few hours across the country.
It's also warning of the possibility of power outages.
Joanna Donnelly looks ahead to the afternoon:
"Obviously the heavy rainfall is coming within the thunderstorms for the whole country. And this doesn't mean that there are going to be thunderstorms in every single area. That's not the nature of thunderstorms, but they could hit anywhere across the country today, there's possibility of flash flooding. If you drive into a thunderstorm, they're going to be very dangerous. The visibility is greatly reduced. You need to slow all the way down."
