A Status Yellow warning for rain is in effect in Cork.
The alert is also in place for Waterford and Kerry until 1 o'clock this afternoon.
Met Éireann is warning of heavy outbursts, leading to difficult travelling conditions and spot flooding.
Alan O'Reilly for Carlow Weather says it's a wet start to the week:
"A big change in the weather from the last few days with much wetter weather moving up from the south early overnight last night and into this morning, a very wet start to the week from many areas and some very heavy rainfall in the south of the country that rainfall will move north, certainly a risk of some local spot flooding early this morning in this out."
