MTU Students Union says the lack of student accommodation is having a knock on effect on the lives of students.
Students at MTU walked out of their classes today to highlight the fact that they can’t get accommodation near the college so they have to drive from home or take the bus.
Students say there aren’t enough direct bus routes to MTU and that when they try to get a connecting bus, they’re usually full.
Speaking to RedFM News, MTU’s Student Union President, Isobel Kavanagh says students have to drive to college but there’s nowhere to park:
"A lot of them are being left behind, the buses are full. The lack of student accommodation with this is putting a huge strain on students. Students have to drive to college which is putting a lot more cars on the road, there's 12,000 students in MTU. So if a lot of them are driving then there has to be adequate parking in MTU."
