A second major employer at Cork Airport has confirmed that their staff will not be laid off for the duration of the airport's temporary shutdown to allow for essential runway works
Workers at Swissport - the global cargo and aircraft ground handling company - informed their staff at the airport of the good news in recent days
The announcement came following reassurances from the Government regarding the continuation of the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme
In July Aer Lingus gave a similar commitment to their staff at Cork Airport which will close temporarily from September 12th to November 22nd for repairs to the main runway.
The Swissport decision is expected to increase demands for similar treatment to be afforded to any other airport workers yet to receive such guarantees from their own employers.
