The Tánaiste says he is "very concerned" about the level of violence happening in relation to what is believed to be a feud between families in the city.
A shot was fired in the Ballyvolane area on Sunday, while on Tuesday a car with a woman and child in it was reportedly rammed and had a shot fired at it.
Gardai are currently carrying out a number of searches in the Glenfield Park area of Ballyvolane in connection with the ongoing family feud
Residents have been asked to remain indoors as the garda operation continues
Speaking to RedFM News, Tánaiste Micheál Martin gave his thoughts on the matter
"That's very, very concerning, anywhere where violence is used and armed weapons are involved is extremely worrying. I have no doubt that the gardai will get on top of this and the gardai are aware of the background and so on. So this is an operational matter for the gardai but one is always concerned when there's that level of violence"
