The Taoiseach has condemned the shooting of a PSNI officer in Co. Tyrone last night as "a grotesque act of attempted murder".
Its understood the off-duty officer was coaching a youth football team at a sports complex in Omagh when he was shot.
He is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
The shooting's been condemned across political divides as 'outrageous', 'shameful' and 'disgraceful'.
Tom Buchanan, an MLA with the DUP, says the circumstances are chilling.
"There were young ones standing around that obviously this police officer had been training int he football field.
"No words can describe the hurt and the anger that there is in the Omagh community.
"Such a barbaric act cannot be condemned strongly enough."
