The Taoiseach has expressed his condolences to the families and communities of those who died in swimming tragedies in Cork recently.
Hundreds gathered at a vigil last night for Emili Roman who died while swimming in Fountainstown on Tuesday. It would have been her 8th birthday yesterday.
On the 24th of August Jack O’Sullivan was 14 years old when he died while swimming with friends in Passage West.
In two separate incidents on the 20th of August, Brendan Wall and Ivan Chittenden died while particapating in an Ironman event in Youghal.
Speaking to RedFM News, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says there’s been a lot of tragedies in the water recently:
"I really want to extend my condolences to the family and friends of the people who lost their lives and the communities that have been affected. I send my thanks to the first responders and the incredible work they have done. And just to remind people, particularly at a time when the weather is good, that the water can be dangerous and to take care."
